Why the change? To reduce burst risks from mismatched hoses (e.g., using a low-pressure hose in a high-static setup). Many older hoses no longer comply, so upgrades are required for new installs or major works.

The temperature rule is the one people miss. Clause 2.3.2.3 requires the hose to suit the temperature it will operate at. A hose rated to 70 °C is marked either 70 °C or “L”; one rated to 90 °C is marked 90 °C or “H”. An “H” hose is fine on a cold or warm application, but an “L” hose on a hot line is not compliant. If you buy one box of hoses for a whole job, buy the 90 °C ones.

Which class goes where. Connections between fixed points must be Class 2 or Class 3. A hose with an integral stop valve or trigger must be Class 4. Class 1 must never be used on a static pressure application, which rules it out of most fixture connections.

Two rules that decide where a hose can go at all (Clause 2.3.2.1). Flexible hose assemblies shall be used only in accessible locations, and shall not be buried. If your detail has a flexi hose disappearing into a wall cavity or under a slab, it is not compliant, and the fix is rigid pipe rather than a longer hose. For a submerged application, Clause 2.3.2.4 requires a hose rated for submersion, marked “S”.
